The most important
- A dynamic QR code lets you change where the code leads after it is printed. Anything placed in the real world should be dynamic.
- Subscription services charge $5-15 per month for entry plans and $15-50 for standard plans — and what you get is a digital file. Printing, material, and mounting are still your problem.
- A Thinkertag is the finished product: a professional, waterproof dynamic QR sticker with NFC built in, for €19.99, paid once. Software included, nothing to cancel.
- At $12/month, a Thinkertag has paid for itself in about 2 months. After that, the subscription just keeps costing.
- NFC is the part no digital service can offer: people can tap your tag instead of scanning it.
What is a dynamic QR code?
A dynamic QR code points to a short link that you control. When someone scans it, the short link forwards them to your destination. You can change the destination at any time without printing a new code.
A static QR code has the destination baked in. If the link changes, the printed code is dead. That is why almost every QR code placed on a table, a machine, a window, or a product should be dynamic.
The part nobody tells you: a digital QR code is half a product
Every subscription service ends the same way: you download a file. Now the rest is on you.
You need the right material, or the code fades in months. The right size and contrast, or it scans badly from a distance. Lamination, or the first rain ruins it. Clean cutting and mounting, or it looks homemade. If how your business looks matters to you — and if you are reading a pricing comparison, it probably does — a home-printed code next to your carefully designed menu, storefront, or equipment is the wrong first impression.
This is the actual difference between the two ways to buy:
1. A subscription QR service. You pay monthly for the dynamic link and a code designer. You print, laminate, and mount it yourself. The code works as long as you keep paying — stop, and every code you ever printed goes dark.
2. The finished product. A Thinkertag arrives as a professional sticker: waterproof, scratch-resistant laminate rated for up to 5 years outdoors, strong adhesive, tested before shipping — with the dynamic software included. Peel, stick, done. There is no subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing that can go dark.
What subscriptions actually cost in 2026
Prices checked July 2026:
| Service | Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| QR Code Generator (qr-code-generator.com) | Starter | paid monthly plan | 2 dynamic codes, digital only |
| QR Code Generator | Advanced | paid, billed annually | 50 codes, digital only |
| Uniqode | entry | from $9/month | limited codes, digital only |
| Uniqode | Core | $49/month | more codes + analytics, digital only |
| Typical market range | entry | $5-15/month | often 1-2 codes |
| Typical market range | standard | $15-50/month | varies |
Note the last column: every plan on the market sells you the link, not the sticker. The physical work — the part your customers actually see and touch — is not included at any tier.
Prices come from each provider's public pricing page, checked July 2026. Plans and prices change — always check the provider's own site for current terms. All trademarks belong to their owners.
The payback math
Say you put dynamic QR codes on 2 restaurant tables, or on 2 machines you service.
| Subscription ($12/month) | Thinkertags | |
|---|---|---|
| Month 2 | $24 | €39.98 (2 tags, one time) — already about even |
| Year 1 | $144 | €39.98 total |
| Year 3 | $432 | €39.98 total |
| Printing and laminating | you, every time it fades | included, waterproof, 5-year rated |
| If you stop paying | codes go dark | keeps working |
A Thinkertag pays for itself in about two months against a typical plan — and that is before counting your time at the printer. Everything after that is the subscription quietly outliving whatever campaign it was bought for.
NFC: the part a digital service cannot sell you
Every Thinkertag also has an NFC chip. People can tap the tag with their phone instead of scanning it — faster, and it works even when a camera scan is awkward, like on a machine at hip height or a table in dim light. One tag can hold up to 5 links.
No QR subscription can offer this, because NFC is physical. It only exists if someone builds it into a real product. If you are comparing options, this is the cleanest difference on the list: same dynamic software, plus a second way for people to reach you, in the same tag.
When a subscription service is the better choice
Honest answer: not everyone should buy stickers.
- Purely digital codes. A QR code in an email signature or on a screen never needs printing. A generator is fine.
- Hundreds of codes with API needs. If you generate codes programmatically at scale, an enterprise plan with an API is the right tool.
- One-week campaigns. If the code only needs to live for days, a free static code may even do.
Who Thinkertags are made for
The person we build for wants the result, not the project. You care how your business looks, you want the code working today, and you would rather pay once for a finished, professional product than assemble one from a monthly plan, a printer, and a laminator. The dynamic software is included, setup takes minutes, and no subscription is the bonus on top — not the whole story.
- The code lives in the physical world: tables, equipment, vehicles, doors, packaging, signs.
- It has to look as considered as everything else you put your name on.
- Tap (NFC) and scan both work, with up to 5 links per tag.
- No scan limits, no code limits, no card-payment failure that kills your codes.
Common questions
Do Thinkertags QR codes expire? No. There is no subscription, so there is nothing to expire. Updates are free.
Are there scan limits? No. Unlimited scans on every tag.
Can I change where the code leads? Yes, at any time, from the included software. The change is instant and the printed tag stays the same.
What does one tag cost? €19.99 for a single tag plus shipping, with volume prices for packs. Shipping is free from 2 tags, and orders before 16:00 ship the same day.
Is the software really included? Yes. Every Thinkertag comes with the full management software: change links, see scan statistics, organize tags. No extra fees.
Do I need any equipment to set it up? No. The tag arrives printed and finished. You stick it where it should live and set the link in the software.
